It all started back in 1989. I was 12 years old and we were living in Portland, OR. My parents had gotten into sailing and decided to take over a project boat. It was a Glen L Marine design Steelaway 35. Originally, it was located behind the old Montgomery Park building in NW Portland sitting in the back lot of Royal Oak Metal Craft.
I don't have a lot of memories of the boat being at the original location. But, I sure do remember the day it came home to SE Portland. We lived off of 42nd and Hawthorne and the trip across town with a oversized load sure made an impression on a lot of people.

Our family house was next door to my grandparents house with a vacant lot between the two that my Grandpa used as a garden. It was kind of a family neighborhood, cousins lived across the street and my Uncle lived a couple blocks away. My dad plugged away at the boat my entire childhood. The boat was kind of a landmark in the old neighborhood.
Eventually, I grew up and moved out. The boat stayed in the garden until my parents moved out to St. Helens, about an hour outside of Portland. My Dad did a ton of work on the boat before passing it on to me. I have a lot of work to do still and lots of dreams in store for this project. The boat also came with a stack of books that I have been spending plenty of time pouring through as I plan and progress through my various projects
